OK, I have to admit that although Spencer is probably pretty intelligent considering his job, he was a little hard for me to like at first. I couldn't help but think that he wasn't just clumsy, but a bit on the ditzy side. His disastrous accident with Quinn wasn't his first, and based on the way the accident happened it could've all been prevented by using his brain (going to get dressed first). Plus he'd had a run-in with a cop where he'd been mouthing off, also not smart. Anyway, aside from all that, Spencer was a sweet guy who just needed a chance, and once he got it Quinn saw what a nice guy he was. Though the characters weren't really developed (Spencer some, Quinn not at all) I liked both MCs, and I liked Quinn's family and Spencer's best friend, Danny. The only thing - and I mean thing - I didn't like was Quinn's team mate, Javier. He was clearly a closet case (based on dealings with Quinn's cousin) and a bully, and the reason he continued to act the way that he did was because he was surrounded by a bunch of tough guys who didn't cower easily. It took encountering someone totally harmless for the guys to see the kind of damage he could do, but that wouldn't have happened if they'd put him in his place. Right after the first time Javier bullied Spencer, Quinn made him coffee! What was that?!? That's what allowed Spence to get hurt the 2nd time. Thankfully everything worked out, but this story could use a part 2, because it had an abrupt drop-off ending that left a few loose ends.Questions: 1. Not that I disapproved of Quinn being with Spencer, but Quinn said he liked Spencer because Spencer didn't expect anything from him and wasn't looking at his money, but how did he know that what was other people wanted if all he had were one night stands? (Chap. 2, Spencer didn't want to be Quinn's next one-night stand) 2. I can kind of understand Danny letting Quinn borrow his key, but really, in this day & age, and in Miami of all places, giving a key to a virtual stranger? And Rick leaving the meds with Spencer? It was convenient for the story, just a bit unrealistic. 3. What happened to the shooter? 4. What happened with Javier? How did I miss this? It is going on 3-1/2 years since Beware of Geeks Bearing Gifts was released and somehow it has missed my radar till now - I have no words other than Ooops! I'm sure I would have eventually discovered Beware but it came to my attention recently after reading Charlie Cochet's Valentine's Day free read, In the Cards(#4.5 in her Four Kings Security series) where I learned Ace & Lucky's cousin Quinn & his partner Spencer had their own story. I immediately went and "1-clicked" but was unable to read right away but it went to the top of my TBR list.Beware of Geeks Bearing Gifts is rom-com at its best. How can you not cheer for Spencer and Quinn? On the surface you couldn't find two more polar opposites but once Spencer finally takes the leap to introduce himself(BTW his flustered moment of slapstick clumsiness is one of the cutest nice-to-meet-you scenes ever) you realize they really are quite suited. They balance each other out and it was easy to understand how they got from Beware to In the Cards.Now, just because I said its rom-com at its best don't think its cliche. Oh no, Beware of Geeks Bearing Gifts is a genius blend of humor, romance, and heat with just the right amount of drama to kick them in the butt too realize how deep their hearts have gotten. Simply put Quinn & Spencer's tale is a delightful gem from beginning to end.
